U.S. and UK to Establish Data Bridge

The cyber security technology will allow secure network transmissions.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Chloe Smith, the UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, recently released a joint statement announcing that the U.S. and the UK have committed to establishing a data bridge between the two countries.

A data bridge is a cybersecurity technology that safely connects two separate computer networks. Many businesses and federal departments run their own networks to easily string their work computers together, but it can be risky and complicated to connect two separate networks together safely. A data bridge uses multiple technologies to safely translate information from one network to another without opening either network up to cyberattacks.

The U.S. and the UK have been discussing a potential data bridge between the two countries for the past two years, but now they are “committed in principle” to actually developing one. There are a number of items they will have to review, such as international copyright laws and technical evaluations, but the two countries have begun scheduling regular meetings to consistently move those efforts forward.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Raimondo as she collaborates on the data bridge with Great Britain.
  • For U.S. officials as they seek to improve cybersecurity and prevent hacking.
